. . . and we're back.

It took me a little over an hour to walk up to Albertson's, pick out what I wanted, and come back. Now I've only got 25 minutes to kill before class :)

Permit, pt. 2

Oh, and no permit, yet. The line was over an hour long, this morning.

Strange flick

Our oh-so-eccentric Professor showed us an oh-so-eccentric short film, today. It was by Salvador Dali and some other dude, and was supposed to show what dreams are like. Very interesting, and, in a lot of ways, successful.

I've got a couple hours before class, so I think I'm going to walk to town to try to get something to eat. Let's see if I can and get back in time!

What is it with girls with achy butts, lately?

Permit

I had Pa take me in for my permit today (Monday), but the DMV is conveniently closed on Sundays and Mondays. At least this gives me more time to study.

Alone for the weekend

Pa and Bernie are away for the weekend. And I'm still alive.

Today was the first time I saw an ad that used the word "crap" on tv. The ad was for Quiznos subs, and went something like, "Hey, you're eating that processed piece of crap instead of the new toasted Philly Cheesesteak sub from Quiznos?" It just seemed kinda like they were kinda forcing the word in there. Anyway.

Steph's away at Festival Con Dios. A friend of hers was able to get them both in for free if they helped out, afterwards.

Interesting class

I ended up installing Windows XP twice - the second time only because I hit a button I didn't think was final that started the install process. Windows started up with no display, so I was forced to start again from the start. These difficulties were coupled with the fact that my "system restore" cd had a big chip out of the edge of it.

Out of class early, once more. Our teacher explained censorship in early cinema using some very colorful language. That was, of course, after he told us about his summer class in Wales, where one of his selling points was Wales' drinking age of 14.

One hour, 32 minutes to go . . .

Fall cleaning

We drew an animal skull in art today. It was a bit of a challenge, so it was fun :)

I'm going to reinstall Windows, tonight. I've got too much garbage on my hard drive; so I backed up 10 cds worth of stuff I want/need to keep, and the rest of it goes "bye-bye."

Pray for me.

Bore-duhm

Argh, there's nothing to do here. I've got yet another hour to kill before class (and I'll probably have to kill a couple more when class, inevitably gets out early) and there's simply not a lot to do. I'm trying to head to Dane's "other band's" website, (which I think is theanomalies.moonfruit.com/) but these computers won't let me install the Flash 6 player, so I'm screwed. I've already been yelled at for playing Solitaire, even though there are no signs that say "no games."

Well, this helped burn another 4 minutes . . .

Out early, again.

Here I sit, again, in the computer lab. Class was supposed to get out at 3:15, but it ended at 1:30 due to it being the first day (for Tu/Th classes.) I'm spending the next 3 hours in here, waiting for my English Composition class.

Major Film Directors And Works doesn't sound like it will be too difficult. It's the 2nd class in a row where the teacher described it as "fun." The first 3 weeks will be lecture, then we'll be watching a movie every week after that. Each movie has a 1-2 page paper due the next week. Nothing too hard :)

Not really excited about English Composition, though . . .

Done for the day.

Just got out of today's class (Design 1). Normally, the class will run until about 4pm, but we were let out of class early since it's our first day. Pa said he won't be here until 4, and not to bother trying to call if I get out early. So, here I sit. I had to login to this machine and change my password to "a mix of upper, lower and numeric" values. Here's hoping I won't forget it, now. On the wall, there's a list of the "Level III Sex Offenders in our community." You know; for my protection. *shudders*

My day got off to a not-so-good start, but I don't really feel like going into all that, now. But, class seems like it'll be fun, and I found a note on our door from Airborne Express, saying they tried dropping off my laptop today (nobody was there), so it'll be here, tomorrow. I just hope they haven't formatted it, or anything :(

Freedom escapes me, slowly

School starts tomorrow for me. I did a bit of laundry so I'd have something to wear, and celebrated my lack of schoolwork by playing guitar for a bit. Still looking for a job, so I'll be heading in to Albertsons tomorrow to talk to the manager about working there.

I'm hungry. Hopefully dinner will be soon.

And where's my laptop?

Today. Errr, yesterday.

Mailed a couple letters and went shopping with Pa. We found some good buys on groceries, so now I've got a number of things to munch on.

*venting*

Aaaarggggg, my dad can really annoy me, sometimes! I went to go ask him a simple question about budgeting and car loans and it turned into a 30-minute lecture about getting a job. Hello?? I've been trying since I got here!

*grumblegrumblegrumble*

This and that

Balanced my checkbook today.

Spent the last few hours assembilng a spreadsheet of different cars and their specs. No easy chore.

Currently, I'm waiting for my hair to dry so I can go to bed. :-/

Oh, the joy

Last night I tried installing some leftover laptop RAM Bernie had found. As it turns out, my laptop doesn't like having both PC133 and PC100 sticks at the same time. After much slot-changing, my laptop refused to boot. I was on the phone for an hour with Gateway tech support (who was, surprisingly, very easy to work with) and was told I'd have to send it in for repairs. Thankfully, it's still under warranty, so I'll just have to send it out when a box shows up in a couple days (he even waived the $44 shipping for me.) They may need to - *gulp* - format my hard drive . . .

I got registered for classes today, which went quickly. I'm all set and ready for school on Monday (aside from books, that is.) Pa took me out shopping for supplies, yesterday. We also went around town and revisited several places I dropped applications off at to inform them of my new schedule.

My classes:
English Composition - Tu/Th, 4:45-7:00
Major Film Directors and Works - Tu/Th, 1:00-3:15
Design 1 - M/W, 1:00-3:50

Which means I have no classes that start before 1pm, I only have one class on Monday and Wednesday, and I have Friday off every week. *smiles evilest smile*

Back from dinner

Dad took us to a friend's house for dinner, tonight. After eating, I was reduced to watching Monday Night Football. I'm feeling oddly tired/depressed/lonely. I think I'm going to watch some tv, soon.

Just in

Pa and I just showed up back at home after driving down to drop Mathys off at home. I got to visit with Steph from around 11 to 4, which was good, since we hadn't seen each other in a bit.

I'm going to try to take it easy, tomorrow. I'm sore all over from pouring concrete and don't feel like doing much. Aside from scheduling a school meeting, I don't have much to do, either.

Concrete day

The concrete truck showed up a little before 8am, today. We just finished 5 hours of pouring, pushing, leveling and finishing. Time for a break.

Dad's going to drop me off at Stephanie's place on his way to drop Mathys off, tomorrow. It'll be good to see her, again.

The smoke alarm is going off. Lunch must be ready.

Wired

Now that my laptop has juice, I can surf from my room, now. So, that's where I'm posting from.

Rainy day

After planning on getting up earlier this morning to help with the concrete form building, I woke up with a massive headache. Mathys was kind enough to bring me some water, and dad doesn't seem to be holding anything against me. It's raining right now, so we're kind of at a stand-still, for the time being. Pa and Mathys left to buy groceries.

Both my laptop's power cord and my birth certificate arrived in the mail today, which is good news.

The haps.

Got up at a comfortable hour, today. Turned in applications after minimal arm-twisting. Some positive leads.

Changed commenting system to one that lets me delete posts; installed it for Steph, too.

Steph blog linkage

Stephanie and Crystal (her roommate) have recently updated their website. In addition to the new design, check out their new blog, which has already become a daily for me.

Got up at the butt-crack of before 8 again this morning. My dad's of the archaic belief that the day actually starts then. I was exhausted, once more, and went application hunting at the usual places. A guy at Outback Steakhouse said it'd be good for us to get the application in tomorrow because he'd like to set up an interview with me. Dad, of course, tells him it'd be in that day. After telling him in no uncertain terms that I doubted I could have all the information let alone the energy to get them all completed by closing time that day, we ended up in a moderately high-volume discussion about getting a job. I promptly and crankily went to bed and slept until noon. (Dad and I settled things later, though.)

Tomorrow's "Serve Day" for GFUers. And, if this Outback deal goes through, it just might be "Serve Day" for me, too.

Reality strikes

I was busy chatting on the phone with Stephanie while half-watching The Joe Schmoe Show, when I found myself in a seemingly dream-like state where dreams I'd forgotten drifted in and out of clarity. It was in those hazy moments when it all seemed to start coming together. First as a trickle, and then much more quickly, the reality of my being in Bremerton and starting school by the end of the month hit me. Shaking my head, I continued my converstation. . .

Work day

Well, only ended up getting 1.5 hrs in, today. Tomorrow, I'm off to OC to get classes and finaid all sorted out. And me, being the genius I am, forgot I needed to request a transcript from GFU until today. *grumblegrumble*

Steph's toying with the idea of setting up a blog for her and Crystal, in the near future. Stay tuned.

B.ton

Mathys and I are in Bremerton. He'll be here until the end of the week, so I won't be alone for a bit. Steph went to the beach with some friends, today.

Off to go play F-Zero GX.

Wow

This caught my attention:

KATU: Fire Rips Through Scappoose Marina

Just the other day, I posted about a fire in Cascade Locks (a city near Hood River.) Now, I'm posting about a fire this morning in Scappoose (a city near St. Helens.) Just look - in a couple days, I expect to see a fire in Bremerton.

Dang.

Slow day

Not much new today. Wrote part of a song today that I'm pretty happy with. Tomorrow (Thursday) is my last day here.

Beaverton

We took a trip to Beaverton today to go to Costco and some other area stores today. They took me by Gateway Country to order a power cord to replace the one I lost. The guy who helped me was named Hans. That was strange. Before we headed back, they let me romp around Guitar Center, which I hadn't had a chance to do before then. It was supposed to get up to 95 degrees in Portland, a record breaking heat, but we saw the car's outdoor thermometer read 100.

So . . . yeah . . . I was going to say something, but it has since fled. . .

". . . into the mountians . . ."

Gorge Fire

Seems there's a fire in the gorge at Cascade Locks. The reporters were saying the wind wasn't really blowing at one point, but that it's 20-30 mph, now. Stay tuned.

Mac 'n Cheeeeese

Just made myself a bowl of Mac and Cheese with hotdog slices and extra cheese. This is making headline news because I have never, in fact, made my own Mac and Cheese (with or without hotdog slices and extra cheese.) It tastes better this way. Mmmmmm . . . cheese . . .

First day of school

Today was the first day of school for the Guhfooers. I got an email from Prof. Wenz this morning asking if I wanted to be in choir this year (I of course told him that I'd love to, but it wasn't going to happen.)

I called Chris' parents to verify just where he was this year. Steph's currently paying him a little visit.

Speaking of phone calls (yick - a pun), I also called my dad up. I'll be going up to B.ton with him when he comes down to pick Mathys and Aaron up for a little weekend work. That way I can get more comfortable in the area and start looking for a job a couple weeks before school starts. Mrs. Ricker went through her pantry and pulled out most of her candy and snacks and told me to pick out the stuff I'd eat. I swear that woman's trying to spoil me.
